Race Safety

All TriAthy races follow the Race Rules set down by Triathlon Ireland.

There are a number of important rules we would like to emphasise at this stage:

WETSUITS ARE MANDATORY Wetsuits are mandatory for the swim leg. This is an essential safety feature of our race as well as an important race rule. NO WETSUIT means NO RACE!!!

CYCLE HELMETS ARE MANDATORY You must wear a cycle helmet from the moment you collect your bike after the swim until you rack it after the cycle. For safety reasons you shouldn’t do up your helmet as you are mounting or dismounting your bike. NO HELMET also means NO RACE!!!

Triathlon is an individual sport where everybody should have an equal chance so a few activities and tactics are not allowed.

“DRAFTING” ON THE CYCLE LEG In Triathlon you are not allowed to gain an advantage by staying in the slipstream of another cyclist. The rule is that you should be at least 7m from any cyclist in front and that any overtaking should take no more than 15 seconds. Note: you can happily draft in the swim and run sections - just not on the cycle section!

OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE You are not allowed to get direct help from friends, supporters or coaches. So if you get a flat tyre, you must fix it yourself. If you need a drink, you must bring it with you on the bike or use the water stations on the run.

DISPLAY YOUR NUMBER It is important to display your number on your back during the cycle and on the front during the run. You will be given 2 identical numbers, so if you use the same top for both the cycle and the run sections and put one number on your back and one number on your front, you will be fine.

NUDITY No bare chests or see-through swimsuits are allowed during the bike or run sections! If you have any questions regarding the race rules please email us here
